SUSANA GUARDIOLA

Susana Guardiola has been in the industry for over twenty years, creating both large and small-scale films and series, spanning fiction, documentaries, music videos, and commercials. Her films have been distributed and showcased in festivals, cinemas, television, exhibitions, online, and events worldwide.
After graduating in Audiovisual Communication from the Universitat Ramon Llull (URL) in Barcelona, with film studies at Saint Martin’s School of Arts in London, and training in the Strasberg Method and Stanislavsky at the Nancy Tuñón Studio in Barcelona, Susana moved to Los Angeles. There, she worked as a sound assistant with major Hollywood studios like Universal Studios and Cinehauss, on projects such as “Man on the Moon” with Milos Forman and at Todd-Ao Studios, with renowned directors like Terence Malick (“The Thin Red Line”) and Martin Brest (“Meet Joe Black”).
Upon returning to Spain, she worked on commercials and music videos as an assistant director, particularly with director Pedro Aznar. She trained in the Film Workshop of director Bigas Luna, who encouraged her to direct her first documentary films: “The Americans are Coming” with Sheldon Collins and Justin Hogan (Hollywood Film Festival 2002 and Toronto Comedy Film Festival 2002) and “El Beso Oscuro de la Mar” (Festival Cinema L’Alternativa 2003 for TVC).
After specializing in documentary film (Master in Documentary Creation at the Pompeu Fabra University), she worked for years with various national production companies (Bausan Films, Mallerich Films, Gestmusic, Visiona TV, Mediapro, Goroka, Minimal Films, Promarfi, Magnolia TV, among others). She traveled worldwide, creating numerous documentary films and series for TV, cinema, and exhibitions, with a long festival run, winning awards and international distribution.
In 2018, she founded her own production company STORIES BY Susana Guardiola, where she co-produced with Promarfi “Descubriendo a José Padilla”. She is currently preparing as director, screenwriter, and producer, the mini-series “El príncipe de cristal” (selected in CIMA Mentoring, SGAE Writing Lab, and CIMA Impulsa), the documentary film “Mechanics of Peace”, in co-production with Les Films d´Icí in France, and the fiction film and documentary mini-series “El Dioni, palabra de ladrón”.
In recent years, Susana has been a member of the executive board and Delegate in Catalonia for CIMA (Association of Women Filmmakers), and a promoter of the ACCIÓ CURTS program by Dones Visual. She has also served as a jury member at the Iberian Film Short Festival in Badajoz, the FICX (Gijón Film Festival), Zoom (International AV Content Festival in Igualada), INCLÚS (International Film and Disability Festival in Barcelona), CinEscultura Festival in Regensburg, and as a project selector and jury member at the Sunny Side of the Doc documentary market in La Rochelle, France.
Guardiola also engages in teaching: Documentary Film Instruction at the UAB (Autonomous University of Barcelona) and UABC (Autonomous University of Baja California), at CIBEF (Ibero-American Center for Photo and Film Studies), and the Scottish Film Institute. She collaborates with URL (Ramon Llull University, Blanquerna), in the Audiovisual Communication degree in Barcelona, mentoring students in internships.
